Even after decades in the USA, Kiyomi Iwata’s work still heavily inspired by the cultural tradition of Japan that she experienced as a child. In her works she chooses to explore the boundaries of East and West by creating works that are both transparent and translucent, which hold mysteries and curiosity. She also says that her works using Kibiso silk reflects her move from the North to the South America and her disrupted and reconnected relationships that resulted. Kiyomi says that her works are a “visual history of the personal life”.
