Design Philosophy
Kiyomi’s purpose of her designs is to keep her Japanese culture and traditions alive and to display them to a broader audience than Japan. She has achieved this by showcasing the majority of her to people who aren’t normally exposed to Japanese art. Kiyomi has also deeply considered the environmental aspects of her works, now exploring kibiso (above), a course, silk yarn, in her works, which is the first ten metres of a silkworms output that would normally be discarded. This makes her works very sustainable, lessening the waste that would normally be produced when creating silk. She is the first textile artist to venture into the use of Kibiso within her works (.
